Study 10: Stay where there is welcome

Pray

Ask God to lead you to people of peace

Review

Take ten minutes to review how you are getting on with the actions you have commited to so far. Think about the following question:

  • Am I doing what I committed to doing?
  • How is it going?
  • Where do I need to see the Holy Spirit working?

Read

Don’t hesitate to accept hospitality, because those who work deserve to be fed. Whenever you enter a city or village, search for a worthy person and stay in his home until you leave town

Matthew 10: 10-11 (NLT)

Reflect

  • What does this verse tell me about Jesus?
  • What does this verse tell me about myself?

Jesus tells his disciples to look for worthy people who welcome them and give them hospitality. The gospels and the book of Acts have many examples of people who welcome Jesus or his followers. Usually they have a big reputation (either good or bad), and draw people in.

What is the difference between looking for people who offer us hospitality to hear the gospel and us offering hospitality in order to share it?

Practice: People of peace

  • Looking for people who welcome us in order to hear the gospel
  • Making the decision to stay with them and disciple them whilst the opportunity lasts

Action

Reflecting on the practice and the questions below write down at least one thing you will do (or stop doing) this week

  • Do you know anyone already who may be a person of peace?
  • How will you go about finding such a person?

Share

If you are doing this in a group share your action statements and pray for each other. If you are doing this on your own we strongly recomend you share with at least one other person
