REPENT

Study 1: Repent

Review

Take ten minutes before you start to review how you came to be thinking about making disiples. Think about the following questions:

  • Who discipled me and what did they do?
  • Who have I discipled in the past and how did that go?
  • Who am I currently discipling or who should I be discipling?

Pray

Ask God to reveal to you what it is he is wanting you to learn from this series of studies

Read

From then on Jesus began to preach, “Repent of your sins and turn to God, for the Kingdom of Heaven is near”

Matthew 4: 17 (NLT)

Reflect

  • What does this verse tell me about Jesus?
  • What does this verse tell me about myself?

Repentence is turning away from wrongdoing and turning to God. Some of us have been followers of Jesus for quite a long time. We did our repenting many years ago. It really struck me recently that sin is a really big deal for God. He is in very nature holy. We need to rediscover our sense of awe, reverence and fear of God.

Others of us may never have realised the need or the urgency to repent. Jesus makes it clear - the time to repent is now

Practice: Repentance

  • Recognise your personal weaknesses
  • Confessing wrongdoing and actively choosing not to do it again
  • Keep short accounts with God

Action

Reflecting on the verse, the practice and the questions below write down at least one thing you will do (or stop doing) this week

  • What is God asking you to repent of today?
  • What does genuine repentance look like?

Share

If you are doing this in a group share your action statements and pray for each other. If you are doing this on your own we strongly recomend you share with at least one other person
